The area has been shaped by the numerous civilizations and cultures that have called it home for millennia, and their vestiges can still be found in towns such as Galatina and the baroque splendor of Lecce, in which the show took place, in everything from intricate golden jewelry to breathtaking chapel murals, from the weaving tradition to local dialects and song.

Dior Cruise 2021 - Lecce

Last night I felt a very strong emotion, an immense pride.
The pride of being Pugliese and of having always known and experienced that typical beauty of my land.

Maria Grazia Chiuri gave us an unprecedented show, impossible to describe.
I was curious and impatient to know the essence of her project and I was not disappointed. Rather!

“It’s important for the local people to understand the value of their tradition,” she said. “Probably the most important thing that I understood during these four years at Dior—in Paris they’re so proud about their tradition; fashion is part of their cultural heritage. But we don’t have the same attitude in Italy. Probably it’s because these traditions are made by women at home, so there’s this idea that it’s domestic work. They don’t think it’s creative work. They don’t give it the same value. They don’t celebrate it. With this show I hope to give a different point of view to the local people about that. It’s not only a dialogue with our audience outside, but it’s really a dialogue with the territory.”

Theater, dance, architecture, history, fashion, craftsmanship, style ... all concentrated in 26 minutes.

The models in Dior who pass light and sweet among the pizzica dancers (they were extraordinary), the thrilling voices of the singers of the orchestra of La notte della Taranta, the lights of Luminarie (a project signed by the artist Marinella Senatore) to decorate one of the most beautiful squares in Italy.
There were pinafore dresses, blanket-fringe skirts, and hand-knit sweaters, and models wore kerchiefs in their hair and flat boots on their feet. So cool!

How wonderful Giuliano San Giorgi's homage to the most beautiful Puglia and to one of its great masters: Domenico Modugno. I sang with him!

This fashoin show is a real declaration of love by Maria Grazia Chiuri to her/my land.

Puglia, after this fashion show, will be even more famous, more loved, more desired.
Grazie Dior!

#DiorCruise is coming...

"A journey into my memory", so Maria Grazia Chiuri describes the fashion show on July 22th (audience-free due to Covid) during the press conference with the Mayor of Lecce, Carlo Salvemini.
Dior staff is reduced and the models will be 45, instead of 100.

Maria Grazia Chiuri has a family connection with my Puglia: "My farher was born in Tricase and my daughter was also born here - she said - and I return here every summer since I was a child".
She chose local craftsmen for the new Cruise collection: "The fabrics for making the jackets come from the weaving workshop of the Costantine, an association of women based in Uggiano La Chiesa, a place with the culture of bobbin lace ".

The orchestra of the Notte della Taranta, directed by Paolo Buonvino, will accompany the fashion show and Giuliano San Giorgi, Negramaro leader, will play an homage to Puglia.

Chiuri also defended the perimeter of Piazza Duomo designed with "Luminarie", a traditional lightings born to be part of the Patron Saint's town celebration. "When the artist Marinella Senatore told me about it I immediately liked the idea ".
There will be only a few guests: @chiaraferragni and @fedez (in my Puglia for a few days) the actress Stefania Rocca with her husband Carlo Capasa, the President of Camera della Moda italiana and Bernard Arnault, chairman and chief executive of lvmh.

See you at 20:45 on the maison's social channels and on dior.com/cruise21, live from Piazza Duomo, Lecce-
The collection will be in Dior stores at Christmas 2020.

Here is my personal selection (via TFL instagram) of Dior Cruise 2020 presented in Marrakech. Maria Grazia Chiuri is a woman who loves women and their femininity and power. In every dress there is a tribute to the YSL design of 1960, there is a love for North Africa, for a land that is in Dior's DNA. Tailored dresses with raffia embroideries, redesigned African fabrics, sumptuous silk dresses, knee hight boots, flat sandals, dresses encrusted with Murano glass beads, white lace dresses. Never as in this collection we can breathe and touch the idea of global/chic femininity by Maria Grazia Chiuri. Simply wonderful.

Africa is also luxury with Dior!
